A bachelors degree is an academic degree that typically takes about four years to complete. In most cases a bachelors degree is earned after completing high school. certain programs may require a longer period of study. Most universities in the United States award bachelor of arts degrees and bachelor of science degrees. There are some schools that only award bachelor of arts degrees. Some of the older universities in England only award bachelor of arts degrees at the undergraduate level.
Originally the bachelor's degree was meant to teach a wide variety of skills in the liberal arts. This is why some older universities only award the bachelor of arts degrees. However modern degrees apart tending toward more specialized skills and as a result bachelors of science degrees are more common.
