Blackberry cell phones have proven quite popular. In fact it's only recently that another company has started to displace them. Apple iPhone's and Google-based android phones are starting to catch up with blackberries. Over there a few things about libraries that make them unique that will probably keep them in a dominant position for some time to come.

Blackberry started out as a type of pager. It was a two-way pager that could send and receive text. Early on the ability to send text from a pager was abnormal. Most pagers simply send a telephone number and if you were able to receive text messages. Having a pager that was able to receive text messages and transmit text messages with a huge boon to anyone who wanted to be mobile. Once this was set up to be a listener receive e-mail messages they had their first widespread mobile e-mail.

Through different development cycles Blackberry started building their messaging capability into cell phones. Blackberries have traditionally had a full keyboard. This was the case on the early two-way pagers and is still the case on most of their modern cell phones.

One of the neat things about blackberries is the way that they send and receive data. It isn't done the same way as android and iPhone-based phones. Backers are capable of sending receiving messages even in areas that have very little in the way of modern cell phone coverage. In most cases you will need to have a data connection for an iPhone or android phone to send and receive e-mail. This is in the case for Blackberry. If you have a cell phone connection and can receive and send text messages the Blackberry is capable of retrieving and sending your e-mail. It will be very fast but it will get and receive the messages.

One of the big advantages of Blackberry phones in their battery life. By queries include some very sophisticated power management. Their phone can easily last for several days of light use. Part of this is due to the power management features that are built into each phone. It is also due to the different type of messaging system. The data connection on the Blackberry that sends and receives e-mail is significantly different than that of other phones. It requires less power and so results in longer battery life.

Most modern Blackberry phones can literally go for two or three days without being charged its use is minimal this means you can forget to charge your phone and not having had the next morning. This is a huge benefit in always being reachable because the longer your battery lasts the more likely your phone is to be on.

Microphones also have a type of push e-mail that is unique. Most other phones use a type of pulldown e-mail. The phone goes out and check for messages and pulled them down to the phone. With a Blackberry it works differently. The messages are actually pushed out of the phone. This appears to use less power and also means you get your messages more often.

They are two ways to receive e-mail. The way that most businesses use is the Blackberry enterprise server. This server and third grades with exchange or Lotus Notes. This integration allows you to sync not only e-mail but also lets you sync your calendars and contacts. The e-mail synchronization is two-way. If you delete something from your phone to delete it from your exchange server which deletes it from your desktop computer. If you delete something from your desktop computer deleted from exchange server which deletes it from your phone.

Another advantage of the Blackberry enterprise server is that it allows you to manage the security unlike her devices. You can control what users can and can't do. For example you can prevent them from installing any other applications. You can also remotely wipe the device. If a phone is stolen or lost you can kill it remotely. This is very advantageous because it makes sure that there's any proprietary data on the device it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Given how mobile cell phones are it's quite common that one get lost or misplaced. The Blackberry enterprise server gives you the peace of mind of knowing that you are going to have sensitive data in the wrong hands.

The other way to get your e-mail is with the Blackberry Internet server. This BIS server allows you to get and send e-mail using an IMAP or Pop server. It doesn't come with many of the features that enterprises use in the Blackberry enterprise server. Typically it also does not include full two-way e-mail synchronization. If you delete an item from your phone it can delete it from your IMAP server but not the other way around. This has to do with the way the messages are pushed out to the phone. The DIS server pushes messages out to the phone as they come in. If one is deleted it can receive back a message saying that he had been deleted on the phone to remove it from the server. However if an e-mail is deleted from the server it doesn't automatically send a message to delete it from the phone. For many people this is an issue. However it can be frustrating if you're trying to manage your e-mails remotely and yet big through all the ones at Jabari cleared out on your phone.

There are some new plug-ins available to give you this two-way synchronization. For example the Gmail plug-in from Google will try to keep the phones synchronize both ways. When you delete an item from your Gmail account it will eventually delete it from the phone. However this is not real-time like it is with the Blackberry enterprise server. When you delete an item from the Gmail server it may take some time before it deletes from the phone. Sometimes it doesn't seem to believe the ball. However it's a step in the right direction and it's better than the way things work before.

Speaking of Gmail, Google also has some synchronization tools that can run on your phone. They will allow you to keep your contacts and calendars synchronized with your Google calendar and your Google contacts. This is extremely useful because Google also has synchronization tools that will run with your desktop computer. So you can keep your desktop computer in your phonebook sync with Gmail's contacts and calendar. So when you add an item to your cell phone it shows up on your desktop computer.

For this level of standardization you traditionally had to pay a lot of money for Blackberry enterprise server. As more and more people are starting to use the Blackberry smartphones Symbian or prize services are starting to trickle down into the end-user personal cell phones. In fact there a number of features that Blackberry enterprise server users are paying for that are starting to be available for free. However the Blackberry enterprise server platform is very robust and has been proven over many years. Many of the new technologies are still flaky and still causing problems so there is an advantage for enterprises to stay with the known proven software.

One thing the Blackberry's offer that you can get with other cell phones is good international support. Since libraries use a different type of messaging system that doesn't rely on the traditional data connection for other modern smart phones it can be used in different parts of the world at a much lower cost. Many companies have international messaging plans for somewhere around $50-$70. This includes unlimited sending and receiving e-mail anywhere internationally. Some early iPhone users were shocked to get thousand dollars phone bills when they used their iPhone in another country. The Blackberry service is the best deal when it comes to international e-mail. However the international service usually doesn't cover that accepts. So use a lot of applications that talk to the Internet on your phone you may get stuck with additional charges just like you would with another provider.

The Blackberry messaging service also works well in areas that have less than stellar cell phone infrastructure. Even if people are using very old infrastructure the Blackberry service usually can work and send and receive messages.

The cost of the messaging service is so low compared to other options, then many people will go ahead and get messaging service on their Blackberry to send and receive e-mail and simply turn off the cell phone usage. Or in some cases they forward the cell phone number to a voice over IP phone that they use in the foreign country. If you try to do this make sure you use a hard forward. If the call actually comes to your phone and in his forward did back you may still be charged for the call.
